About
Dementia in Perspective was founded by Janet Standifer, whose ultimate goal is to help those individuals, families, healthcare professionals, businesses/organizations, and communities understand dementia. She provides current information about dementia, how it progresses, and the progression of states of being in which the person with dementia is functioning. Janet strives to provide assistance for families and care partners with the related challenges that are associated with dementia. This allows them to better care for their loved one. When someone is diagnosed with dementia, it effects everyone : family, friends, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and the surrounding communities.
Janet has been a member of the healthcare profession for 37 years. She began her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist after earning her Master’s degree in 1982 from Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, she practiced in a variety of settings, providing direct patient care with adults and continues to provide clinical interventions for who are diagnosed with progressive neurocognitive impairments . As a Certified Dementia Trainer and Consultant, she provides intensive education about dementia and conducts training workshops for both individuals and groups.
Janet’s goal is to help those living with dementia improve their overall quality of life. Through her own diversified personal and professional experiences, she demonstrates the commitment to be an effective dementia trainer and consultant. Janet’s heartfelt desire is to provide ongoing education within the communities and increase awareness to make life better for those living with dementia and their families.
