Virtual Dementia Tour

What Is the Virtual Dementia Tour?

VDT was developed by Second Wind Dreams (SWD), a national non-profit organization, whose mission is to change the perception of aging.

Studies and research conducted by SWD  show that the VDT is necessary to become sensitized to the needs of elders in order to provide good care.

VDT is a sensitivity training program for caregivers and healthcare professionals as well as a method to educate and improve the understanding of dementia amongst families and the community.

The Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through use of patented sensory tools and instruction based on research conducted by P.K. Beville, geriatric specialist and the founder of Second Wind Dreams.

During the VDT experience, trained facilitators guide participants through common everyday tasks and exercises while outfitted with patented devices that alter their senses. The tour enables caregivers to experience for themselves the physical and cognitive challenges those with dementia face.  Proceeds from the VDT are used to fulfill Second Wind Dreams’ mission to make dreams come true for our elders who live in long term care.

Who Could Benefit?

  1. Eldercare community like nursing homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and among those who provide home health services
  2. Colleges
  3. Medical schools
  4. Other organizations that specialize in serving the senior care market
  5. Businesses
  6. Families
  7. First Line Responders
  8. Any where that dementia is experienced.

When dementia strikes, it strikes the whole community, not just the individual. The impact of this disease on businesses, employees, and families in general makes increased sensitivity a societal imperative.

Janet Standifer is a Virtual Dementia Tour Trainer who assures that the VDT is conducted properly as studied and designed so that the clinical integrity of the program is maintained and users can count on consistent and effective outcomes.

The Virtual Dementia Tour can be conducted within the community, healthcare facility, or in families’ homes.
